Pool Shark is the eighteenth episode of R.L. Stine's The Haunting Hour: The Series.

Summary[]

Can a handsome boy overcome his fear of the water and convince people there is a shark in the school's swimming pool?

Plot[]

Kai must overcome his fear of the water in order to convince people there is a shark in the pool. Soon, Kai begins experiencing weird dreams involving sharks coming after him, and discovers that the shark is actually a Nanaue (a creature from Hawaiian mythology that looks human on land, but turns into a shark when he swims in the water). At the same time, Kai begins bonding with Alexa, a girl who is taking swim lessons Cameron of the school swim team

Kai goes to the pool to kill the shark. However, moments later two shark fins are seen passing each other in the water. The Nanaue turns out to be Kai's father, who tells his son that they are of the Nanaue clan (with the transformation sometimes not passing on to generations) and Kai has come of age to use his newfound powers. Alexa shows up to use the pool, cueing dad to leave. Cameron shows up shortly after and insults Kai, only for Alexa to defend him. Wanting to defend Alexa, Kai challenges Cameron to a race in the pool. Using his new shark form, Kai spooks Cameron into fleeing. An impressed Alexa asks if Kai would eat her if she asked for a ride on his back as a shark; clearly she's become smitten with him. Kai notes he did eat before, but Alexa tells him that she'll take her chances. Both happy, they head into the pool.
